Legislated speed is more often than not exceeded by motorists which should be taken into consideration when determining the number of blocks to be used. It is highly recommended that in all applications, the early warning block is used followed by the remaining blocks at the specific intervals determined by actual speed. BRP Road Patch can be used in the full sized sheets where the specification requires a broader width bar or hump. Furthermore, for increased warning to motorists, bars can be placed to reinforce road marking to deter motorists from crossing centre lines or channeling traffic. Refuge islands can be cross-hatched and painted with road marking paint if desired. Speed humps for commercial areas such as shopping centres and industrial areas may be constructed using BRP Road Patch combinations. Speed humps of up to 75mm high, (recommended for speeds of up to 15km per hour taking into consideration the Average Least Dimension (ALD) of the aggregate size) can be achieved. |

Additional Advantages |
|
Can be applied as a safety alert in advance of road-works and removed when the work is complete and the protection is no longer required. |
|
Materials |
|
- BRP Rumble Strip / BRP Road Patch
- Stable grade 60% anionic or cationic 65% emulsion or local equivalent for tack coat purposes.
- Crusher dust or dry sand.
|
|
Installation Procedure |
|
- Ideally road surface temperature should be 10 degrees Celsius and rising
- Sweep area free from loose particles.
- Ensure area is dry.
- Demarcate area to receive emulsion, using chalk.
- Cut or use precut material. Cut with paper side uppermost.
- Ensure packaging tape is removed from paper side of patch.
- Evenly apply emulsion to demarcated area at the rate of 0,75L/m2 using a block brush. Ensure that there are no pools of emulsion. When temperature is below 10 degrees Celsius, treat paper with emulsion also.
- Allow emulsion to "break" completely (changes from brown to black, becomes tacky).
- Position in place, do not overlap, butt edges carefully at joints.
- With a brush, apply a small quantity of emulsion to joints and edges – "blind with sand".
- Reopen road to traffic.

Application for Concrete Surfaces |
|
Break the surface tension with creosote prior to tack coat with emulsion for concrete surfaces where traces of curing compound remains.
Product Widths Available
750mm x 1000mm / 100mm x 1000mm per sheet of 7 metres / 200mm x 750mm per sheet of 3,75 metres. BRP will endeavour to meet individual specialised requirements. |
