Stormwater will flow in the carriageway out of the stormwater channel when either the asphalt adjacent to the channel depresses due to foundation layer settlement or the channel itself breaks up. The result of stormwater flow on the asphalt causes erosion and downstream concentration of stormwater caused by catchpit bypass.
In order to rectify the situation BRP Stormater Diverters are used. These products are installed at 45 degrees to the stormwater flow direction across the channel and into the carriageway (see sketch).

These products are 100mm wide and between 300mm and 500mm long depending on the specific situation. Thickness also depends on the situation but is generally made up of 9,5mm, 13,2mm and 19,00mm aggregate strips or combinations thereof. The product is extremely versatile with cold process application, no wastage and swift installation. As a surface applied solution to stormwater flow problems, BRP Stormwater Diverters are unique. |

BRP CRACKSEAL
PREFABRICATED AND COLD APPLIED |
|
BRP Crackseal is manufactured from BRP Road Patch in either sheet or strip form. The dimensions are 1,0m x 0,75m sheets or strips of 80mm, 100mm, 150mm and 200mm widths. The products are supplied in aggregate sizes of below 2,75mm, below 4,75mm as well as 6,7mm. |
|
Additional Advantages |
|
- The cost of specialised cracksealing equipment is eliminated.
- The cost of a compressor to blow out the cracks is eliminated.
- Prevents reflective cracking.
- Textured surface provides skid resistance.
- Provides an even distribution of binder.
- Can be used on joints as well as cracks.
It is recommended that Extra Fine (below 2,75mm) is used in residential areas or as pre-treatment to resealing. |

BRP Crackseal Rubber is manufactured to provide a partially blended material which, when reheated, will complete the digestion process.
Plant and Equipment
- Mobile compressor for blowing out cracks.
- Special spray equipment with 2mm nozzle openings (will need spare nozzles).
It is necessary to ensure that the equipment utilised in the reheating process is specifically designed for bitumen rubber to avoid destroying the sensitive chemical balance of the product. Repetitive reheating of the product is not recommended once the digestion process has been completed, therefore 60-90 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius is recommended.
Weather Constraints
The road surface temperature at which the cracks will be sealed is 10 degrees Celsius. Work should not be attempted within 3 days after rain has fallen on the sections to be treated. |
